There is a very cheesy line in a very cheesy movie. It goes something like, everyone has friends, but school friends are the ones who hold a special place in our lives. I have always believed in this statement, and today, I have all the more reasons to believe in this. Yes, I met my school friends today. Though the event was not as grand as the Whatsapp and Facebook groups were making it look like till yesterday, there is one thing that became concrete seeing the low turnout. Those who came, were the ones who really wanted to come. The meeting point was, no points guessing that, the school campus, and while we were parking our respective cars in the narrow streets, I am sure everyone was reminded of the times we used to walk those lanes to catch buses. When we stepped in, the first person I met was the one who taught me in my first class, and then the principal, the chairman, the primary and senior teachers. Everyone was so happy to see us, and know that we have managed to settle well in our lives. We had cold drinks sitting in the Principal’s office, the place we dreaded seeing in school life. As we walked in the doors of the Chairman’s office, we were reminded of the only time we had been there earlier, which was after our batch made a record in class X results. We told them how the values they instilled in us are helping us still, and how we silently thank them at least thrice a day when we see that our discipline is making us a better person today. Then came the time when we were, strangely, given the permission to visit the classes. The rooms that we grew up in, year by year. The campus has changed, and so have the classes, but it was fun guessing where we used to sit. As we were roaming around, we saw some students looking at us in awe, and could spot some familiar, albeit changed faces. The tiny tots of our time are in class XII now. We found one empty class and settled down on the benches discussing our life and loves, and were surprised to know that two extremely different people of our batch are seeing each other. Seriously? After spending some good two hours in the school, we headed to the mall we only had thought of going to in our school life, but not before playing Oh Meena Super Seena, which I dont know how we remembered. We had seriously considered the school canteen for our lunch, but the pockets were a bit too heavy for that. The bill was not fought upon, as they show in some advertisements, but it was good to see all wallets coming out at one or the other time during the day. The final hugs were emotional, not the crying emotional, but the happy emotional, and the smile is still there as I type this. I don’t know why I am writing it here, maybe you guys won’t even like a post that doesn’t tell a tale but, being a writer, I could not hold myself from writing it down. The next time someone plans a reunion, be a part of it, or better, you plan something yourself. Trust me, it’s worth it. ~ Nandini
