There is some conflicting information about puppies being adopted before 8 weeks old at this shelter....You will know which one Im talking about. So far, Ive posted 2 puppies who are 6 1/2 weeks old, and they were adopted. NOT RESCUED. Please keep that in mind while I post a statement from this shelter...............Stephanie Lonsdale: Here is an email from the Shelter Supervisor at San Bernardino City Shelter explaining why it is illegal for a shelter to adopt out 6 week old underage puppies: To our rescue partners, As you are all aware, Food and Agricultural Code 17005(a) identifies animals under 8 weeks old as unadoptable. However, this does not preclude rescue organizations from “rescuing” these animals. As you know, these types of animals require quite a bit of support to sustain life. Given our current fiscal and staffing considerations, the shelter is unable to maintain these animals for an extended period of time. It is imperative that willing rescues contact office staff at (909) 384-1304 and/or pick these animals up at the shelter as soon as possible. There is no need to wait until after 12:00 pm, given they are not available to the public. However, the same rules apply to rescuing these animals as apply to any other animal rescued from our shelter. Make sure your 501c3 paperwork, our cooperative agreement and your spay/neuter certificates are up to date. The sooner you rescue these animals the sooner they will get to a loving, responsible home. Though we are taking every reasonable action to save these animals, we cannot guarantee the length of stay while they are being networked, so please pick up these animals and then network them. 5 hours ago · Like
