There was a conversation here last night in which folks were discussing domestic violence in response to one of my Dear Women posts. I took my stat down because: 1-I dont have the time to defend it at the moment, 2-I dont want to defend it and 3-I didnt want to even hint at victim bashing. But here is the deal: I dont support all this #WhyIStay business because there will always be a million ways and reasons to barter away our bodies and existence. Its good to have kinship in suffering. But its, perhaps, more empowering to know there are resources available to lift from that suffering and a steady stream of other women and allies who care. We are not required to stay or love anyone who violates us. If I suffer on the southern road, it is good to know you suffered too. It is healing balm, however, to be a compass and guide me to that road out, and north.
