There was a thread somewhere about spalting wood I cant seem to be able to find again, so meet my spalting jar! I created it totally by accident when I bunged a load of spoon blanks in there with some woodchips to stop them drying out. Now anything I put in there starts spalting itself. Its maybe a bit more controllable than spalting a whole log, as spalted timber can very quickly go too far and become unstable. This way I can keep an eye on it, catch it before it goes too far and only spalt as much as I know I can work through before it goes bad. Little bits seem to spalt quicker too. Its like sourdough or yoghurt but less temperamental!!
