There was a time not long when the appointment of a cabinet member - TopicsExpress

There was a time not long when the appointment of a cabinet member of the opposite party as the president was a sign of statesmanship and national unity. Now, its a one way ticket to having your reputation dragged through the mud. By all accounts, Chuck Hagel was a loyal cabinet secretary for President Obama. He carried forward Obamas edict to cut the Pentagon budget and remove American troops from Afghanistan. Additionally, Hagel executed damage control after Obama triggered rhetorical landmines, such as suggesting the American approach to ISIS was to “shrink” it and make it “manageable.” Hagel regularity protected his boss from a significant amount of criticism on several issues. Now, having outlived his usefulness to this White House, Hagel can apparently be unceremoniously discarded the same way one would toss out stale bread. Whatever the cause of Hagel’s removal, his reputation being besmirched by discourteous a White House has added insult to undue injury and makes it insane for anyone to join a bipartisan cabinet. As Peggy Noonan righty points out, the ungraciousness and disrespect in Washington is expanding to epidemic proportions.
