Canada Fund for Local Initiatives The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) provides support to small scale, short-term projects in the Pacific by working with local, national and international NGOs and other organizations. The CFLI focuses on funding projects with long-term, sustainable goals that enhance the local community. Recipient organizations are expected to make a contribution in cash or in kind. The program is widely recognized as making a significant contribution to genuine development and capacity-building in the region. Now accepting proposals for 2013-2014. You can obtain the guidelines and applications on these following links or on the page below: The program is managed directly by the High Commission of Canada in Canberra, Australia for projects in the following Pacific Island countries: Papua New Guinea Vanuatu Solomon Islands Nauru Palau Federated States of Micronesia, and The Republic of the Marshall Islands The program is consistent with Canadas priority areas for international assistance: (1) stimulating sustainable economic growth; (2) advancing democracy; (3) ensuring security and stability; (4) increasing food security; and (5) creating opportunities for children and youth. Within Canadas priority areas, in 2013-2014 the High Commission of Canada in Canberra will focus on supporting projects in three key areas: Governance and Democracy; Womens Empowerment and Gender Equality; and Sustainable Economic Development. Emphasis on project selection is placed on building local NGO capacity, and projects linked to creating opportunities for children and youth. In addition, we encourage project proposals focused on cultural preservation, which is an important aspect of life in the Pacific. The maximum contribution to any one project is C$50,000 but the majority of projects we support fall in the C$5,000 to C$30,000 range. We encourage project proposals focused on the above mentioned areas and will also consider project proposals with broader regional reach.
