There was some chatter here earlier about whether Timmy is a serious candidate for the hall of fame....the short answer for me is possibly. I think if he regains consistent command of his fastball and better throwing mechanics out if the stretch, and gets back to the 200 + strikeouts a year! he would certainly be considered. But I thought of something interesting, I compared Timmys career stats to Tim Hudsons career stats side by side. The reasons, 1st of the current crop of Giants, he will likely be the next player to be on the HOF ballot meriting consideration, and 2nd, Timmy is in his 8th season, and Huddy is in his 16th. Almost twice as much experience. I wont bore everyone with the exact numbers they are available at baseballreference Huddys number do show a fairly consistent pattern over his 16 years, Timmy has had 4 consistent seasons and 2 poor seasons Timmy has less than half Huddys wins, but almost 3/4 of Huddys losses. Timmy has more than half of Huddys home runs allowed, but less than half of Huddys total hits allowed. He has more than half of Huddys walks, but way way more than half of Huddys strikeouts. Their career career era are both below 4, with Huddy 10% of a point below Timmys. Now, those were the reg.season stats, when it comes to the post season, Timmy blows Huddy out of the water! Now this is the question, if Hudson retired today as he is, would he get in the HOF, or If Huddy retired with his current stats, PLUS, 2 World Series rings, 2 Cy young awards, and 2 no hitters, would he get in? god only knows how much longer Timmy will pitch, and whether he will get better, worse, stay the same, get injured etc. the voters for the HOF all have different priorities as to how they judge players for selection. Some do not factor championships, or post season awards, focusing purely on stats, some consider longevity more than others and so on...so it would be interesting to see how Huddy fares when he goes on the ballot the first time.....and lets all hope Timmy really kills it for many years to come and makes it into Cooperstown!
