There were a range of options proposed at tonights Study Session, in addition to Plan A, which is favored by the media, and judging from the crowds reaction, few others. I prefer Plan B, if for no other reason than that it would allow two exemplary academic programs to be saved. Two other thoughts: 1. The proposal to bring Washington and Miller Valley students to a new K-6, housed at Granite Mountains campus, does not address the fact that there is one road into/ out of GM. I have been there when the road was iced over, on a Monday morning. Everyone had to walk up the back sidewalk, from Abia Judd. The sidewalk was icy in several spots as well. 2. The proposal for a four-day school week would do well to be given at least a year before implementation. Families would need considerable time to make proper arrangements for the safety, well-being of, and good use of time by, their children, on the Friday they would not be in school. A third issue, which is ongoing, regardless of the option chosen by the Governing Board. Prescott has four neighborhoods which do not have a school nearby: Outer Williamson Valley, Yavapai Hills/Diamond Valley, Wolf Creek/Hassayampa/Walker and Outer Copper Basin. A fifth such area, Outer Willow Creek/Pioneer Park, is growing. Each of these areas have students who are already spending lots of time on the bus. While it is a bit late to worry about prior lack of planning, plans ought to be set in motion NOW, for the neighborhood schools of a near-future Prescott. Yes, that means BOND APPROVAL. To my fellow senior citizens, who tend to vote no on such measures: What kind of people do you want taking care of us, educated and considerate, or dumb as a post and reckless?
