There would be no fashion in the United States were it not for - TopicsExpress

There would be no fashion in the United States were it not for immigrants. Some of the best designers are the children of immigrants who worked in the garment industry. Today, it’s Asian immigrants and Asian-Americans who are redefining the U.S. fashion industry. They talk about how their parents are sewers and workers. Migrants and their US-born children affect ALL sectors of our culture. We, the children of migrants, have developed an approach to creativity thats shaped by our parents - by necessity, innovation, the ability to speak to multiple communities, and the ability to create something out of nothing - the way our parents did. In fact, the survival and integration of our parents into US society was an ongoing act of creativity. Migration is a cultural imperative. This is another example of how migration affects every single aspect of our identity.
