Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ -- this Jesus whom you crucified. -- Acts 2:36. Preaching through Peters sermon in Acts 2:14-36 this Sunday. As I have studied and put together this sermon on this text, it occurs to me that we miss what Peter really wants us to see in these verses, that God has made Him both Lord and Christ -- this Jesus whom you crucified. We tend to go to Acts 2 to discuss speaking in tongues or to discuss the necessity of baptism for salvation in Acts 2:38. However, to focus on speaking in tongues or baptism when we come to Acts 2 is to miss Peters point entirely. Peters point in these verses is to show us that Jesus is Lord. The speaking in tongues we read about in that chapter are connected with the fact that Jesus is Lord. Repenting and being baptized (verse 38) are responses to the simple fact that Jesus is both Lord and Christ. Lets never forget that the only reason we do what we do as Christians is because of the Lordship of Jesus. And so the question becomes how can we know for certain that Jesus is both Lord and Christ and how should we respond to that? If you are in the Moab area on Sunday, come join the Moab church of Christ at 456 Emma Blvd. in Moab, Utah as we look at Peters sermon and answer this question of eternal consequences. Worship begins at 10 AM with Bible Class immediately following at 11 AM. Hope to see you all there!
