Theres a Climate Change demonstration planned for this Sunday in NYC, and i started thinking about the demonstrations i was involved in many years ago, and those protests lasted for several years; they were anti-war protests, and actually protests is not the right word, because we were never allowed to protest but for maybe a minute or two, when they went straight to rioting, with the first tear-gas cannister lobbed at us...we also came prepared with buckets containing water and baking soda or vinegar for the 2 different types of tear bombs; we ran when necessary, fought like hell when necessary and many got the shit kicked out of them, but one thing we never did, was stand around with signs..we didnt really have signs, too much extra baggage when youre running or fighting..when a comrade was being attacked by the police, we waded right in and helped; and even if we had cell phones back then, you will have to trust me when i say that we would never have stood there taking pictures while our friends were being attacked; city property was destroyed: police vehicles were the target; barricades were built with anything handy, and lit on fire so as to reroute and contain where we wanted to make a stand; running away was a good tactic as well, because the asshats would actually go in different directions chasing a few people here and some over there, diminishing the police ranks, so that we could have things our way with what was left of their forces; so you will have to excuse me and understand why i dont think much of your modern-day demonstrations, and secretly snicker to myself: self-centered, dickless mofos and if that upsets anyone..pity, for you and for us.
