Theres a lot of support the police! going around, a reaction to the protests. People seem to be mistaken that all police, even good cops, are under attack. Trust me, police have plenty of support. Police that have long histories of abuse and misconduct are well supported by their unions, their chief and too often dont face punishment. What they need is for greater federal oversight and greater citizen oversight. Bad cops are well supported. We all know that the majority of police officers in this country are great. They do dangerous work and they do good work. It seems like some people think this is a PR battle. Anti vs Pro-Cop Propaganda, who can spread more of it. But the Support Police! reaction doesnt change anything about the conversation or the outcome of the conversation. Just to be clear, bad cops dont need your support, they already have way too much, OK? Thats what this is about - much lacking ACCOUNTABILITY. Like the cop in this viral video, Philip Nace. He had a history of complaints of harassment, assault and his racist banter was captured on video more than once. HE WASNT FIRED. Why? Because bad cops have way too much support and because a million people didnt take to the streets yet, to say, ENOUGH. WERE DONE WITH IT. Following the video, that I posted in the comments below - its the more shocking one - AGAIN he wasnt fired. Its unbelievable really, and serves as a much needed example of why this is important. In the case of this racist, abusive, horrible police officer, there was widespread anger over the fact that the police union and Police Chief defended this officer. It was because of public outcry that FINALLY the police had no choice but to fire him. You know, its a shame that the system is so corrupt that thats the case. But, unfortunately, thats what it takes. Good cops want cameras. Good cops are beginning to speak out against bad cops and there are reforms on the table that will encourage and enable them to do more of that because the bad cops are putting the lives of good cops in danger. If you want to resist reform, youre in an increasingly smaller minority. So while youre busy supporting cops, generally, dont get too confused about whos job is on the line as a result of this movement. Its not the police officer that ran into the fire to save the puppy, OK? Good cops are great, share their stories. Just know that this movement is not about punishing or ruining the reputation of good police officers. Its about getting jackasses like this off the street BEFORE multiple videos of his misconduct go viral on YouTube. https://youtube/watch?v=Nt7B1gWB-Jw
