Theres a piece in The Lancet (journal of the medical profession) saying The Scottish NHS would inevitably be drawn into TTIP and privatisation, because the TTIP agreement is with the UK Government in Westminster. There is no opt-out possible for the currently devolved Scottish NHS. Now, most people havent heard of TTIP, the Trans Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. I confess until the last few days I was only vaguely aware of it myself. Yet this agreement between the USA and Europe already exists in draft form, and is due to be finalised within the next 3 months. The important point to note is, it would force public services to be put out to tender. Combined with the 2012 law which removed the duty of British health ministers to ensure health service for all, this agreement would destroy the NHS in England. Would it also destroy, as the writer in The Lancet says, destroy the NHS in Scotland?
