Theres a series on CNN on Thursday night at 9:00 P.M. called The 60s. Below is the theme song - For What Its Worth. I remembered it immediately as one of the most important songs of my youth. It reminded me of JFKs murder, LBJs escalation of the Vietnam War, the end of innocence, (especially for those under 30) - the loss of trust in the face of our seemingly surrealistic reality. I for one, became paranoid, (& rightly so), about our government - the elected government and the hidden one. Civil rights, Watergate, the Nixon crowd, the Daniel Ellsberg files, bombing Cambodia, the women’s movement, the gay rights movement, and the environmental movement - each, to varying degrees, changed government policy and, perhaps more importantly, changed how almost every American lives today. Yet, for all our gains I feel as if we are going back in time. Civil rights is now, once more, a major issue as states attempt to prevent minorities from voting. Yesterdays Vietnam lessons have been lost with the possibility of yet another intervention in the Middle East - in the Iraqi and Syrian Civil Wars which are increasingly expanding. Fighting an unconventional war with a conventional army...wasnt that Vietnam? Will Lebanon and Jordon be next? I despair. There has not been a solution to the Sunni - Shiite problem since the Islamic prophet Muhammad died in the year 632 CE, leading to a dispute over succession.. We, (US GOV), are now telling us to evacuate US personel from Iraq - civilians, contractors, the American Embassy in Iraq, from diplomats to USAID workers. Thats right, the very same embassy we spent a gazillion dollars on and which is larger in size that the Vatican City. I have nightmares of Islamic fundamentalists turning the US Embassy into a Sharia Disneyland. Below is the link to my song and a very interesting article. And, btw...this is all Obamas fault!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just listen to John McCain and his cronies place the blame on him - he who was one of the small group of folks who voted against the Iraq War. Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it. George Santayana https://youtube/watch?v=1yop-L9Wn8E thedemocraticstrategist.org/strategist/2009/08/there_are_certain_very_instruc.php
