Theres a story going around FB about a show that happened at a bar in Saint John this past weekend... Anyway, without writing a novel, the story goes that the singer of one of the bands had somewhat of a hissy-fit and destroyed a bunch of the bars gear in pure emo fashion. I could easily write a huge essay about why that kind of thing is wrong and disrespectful but instead Im going to say this: In the 10 years Ive been playing original music throughout the bar circuit Ive had the unfortunate displeasure of watching many our regions greatest venues close down. Places, where at the time, were staples and it was unimaginable that they would ever close... Yet they did. As a result of witnessing these ebbs and flows it made me very aware of how precious a bar that caters to original music is. As a community and perhaps especially as artists, we need to do everything we can to protect those resources as they serve all of our best interests. Hearing about bands or artists doing something to actively set these venues back makes me want to pull my own hair out. The singer who broke all the equipment didnt just damage his bands reputation but took a shot at the overall scene as well.
