Theres a trend of late that, while it concerns me, must worry the hell out of professional photographers that are trying to make a decent living. Goes something like this: I have a (insert often very expensive body) and a (insert sometimes very expensive lens) and I have a paid shoot/wedding/event in a few minutes/days. Im very new to all this (dont know what Im doing in other words) and would like to know what settings to use. Now Im not for a moment saying questions shouldnt be posted, this group has fantastic experience and the members are very willing to offer it to others. BUT If you are looking for paid work, offering your (supposedly) professional services, taking peoples hard earned money for doing so and supplying photographs on the basis that you know what you are doing you really should know exactly that. Paid photography isnt a bit of fun on the side, it isnt actually something anyone can do, it isnt something anyone should agree to do unless you are absolutely confident that the money you get paid will result in professional and reliable results. If you are in any way unsure, dont offer your services and certainly dont take peoples money. You could cause upset for them and damage the whole profession in doing so. Everyone starts somewhere, everyone needs help at the start and at times as we go along but until you are completely confident in your working knowledge of photography you should not be offering your services. The fact you can afford to buy a professional camera doesnt magically make you a professional photographer. The fact that you have any camera doesnt make you a professional photographer.
