Theres a widely accepted misconception on a global scale that the heart is on the left side of the chest. Well, it IS a misconception par excellence, yet with some merit. The fact is that the heart is right in the center of the chest cavity, but only its apex (lower tapering part) leans toward the left. Proof?? The sternum (center bone of the chest) is in the center (& NOT to the left)to protect the heart from any blows in that area; otherwise, you know what could happen! I am sure my former biology students know all about this--right, or youve forgotten??! ;)
