Theres an interesting and completely false narrative being circulated by some Power-At-All-Costs Republicans in DC that Senate Conservatives Fund, launched by former U.S. Senator Jim DeMint, is somehow responsible for Republicans not currently holding the majority. Nothing could be further from the truth. SCF has only endorsed two candidates who won their primaries but lost their general elections [Christine ODonnell (DE) and Ken Buck (CO)]. On the other hand, SCF, or Senator DeMint personally, actively supported a number of individuals who now sit in the U.S. Senate including Senators Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Deb Fischer and our own Jerry Moran. I dont always agree with SCFs judgments, decisions or endorsements. But this attempt by McConnell to attack the conservative base, threaten consultants who work for conservative challengers, and marginalize Tea Party activists is doomed to fail and smacks of self-absorption and paranoia. The Republican Party doesnt belong to Mitch McConnell or any incumbent, for that matter. It belongs to the tens of millions of individuals in this country who call themselves Republicans. McConnells challenger has just as much right to run for the GOP nomination as he does. There is no divine right to an office bestowed to any elected official, no matter how long he or she has been in DC. Everyone wants to see the GOP get to 51 votes in the 2014 elections (or more, as Senator Roberts aptly noted today). But that wont happen if party resources and staff that should be focused on taking out Democrats are diverted and deployed to do the dirty work of a single incumbent Republican who, perhaps, is feeling vulnerable. **************************** Mitch McConnell and his merry band of lobbyists have a clever little line attacking the Senate Conservatives Fund. They claim the Senate Conservatives Fund (“SCF”) has gotten more Democrats elected than the Democratic National Committee....the Senate Conservatives Fund has only helped nominate two Tea Party candidates who went on to lose the general election [Christine ODonnell (DE) and Ken Buck (CO)]....On the other hand Mitch McConnell supported Rick Berg, Denny Rehberg, Carly Fiorina, Linda McMahon, George Allen, and Tommy Thompson. All lost to Democrats. redstate/2013/11/08/a-question-for-mitch-mcconnell-will-any-reporter-ask-it/
