There’s More Nautical in Comox Nautical Days 2013 In addition to returning crowd favourites Build, Bail and Sail, the Bullhead Derby and Victors Simonson Dragon Boat Races festival goers will also have opportunities to tour ORCA Class Navel Vessels, watch an open water Search and Rescue Demonstration by the Royal Canadian Air Force and enjoy the big band performance of the Canadian Navy Band – The Naden Band. This year the 442 Search and Rescue Squadron from 19 Wing Comox will stage a special search and rescue demonstration on Saturday, August 3 at approximately 4:30 pm. in Comox Harbour. Festival goers can get a front row seat for this one from the wharf. Also on Saturday, August 3 The Naden Band will perform. The Naden Band is Canada’s Navy band on the West Coast. This multifaceted ensemble of 35 professional musicians are ambassadors of national pride and goodwill. Performing throughout Canada this is their first appearance at Comox Nautical Days. There are two performances on Saturday. The first by The Naden Band’s “Undercurrent” ensemble at 2 p.m. playing everything from mainstream jazz to swing, rock and pop. Then at 6:30 p.m. the full Naden Band takes the main stage for Captain Cracker’s Family Concert and it’s sure to be a great show! And if you’ve ever wondered what it was like aboard one of those big Navel vessels you see in the harbour - here’s your chance to find out. On Sunday, August 4 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. public tours of ORCA Class Navel Vessels will be available. Tours included a water taxi ride to HMCS Quadra on Goose Spit. Those wishing to tour the vessels must register at the Comox Nautical Days Information Booth on the grounds at Marina Park during the festival. Comox Nautical Days is a FREE family friendly, fun-filled festival held annually on the August long weekend.
