These are photos of H. Blue Umbrellas taken late this afternoon with the sun backlighting part of the plant. I noticed a strange glowing pattern part way across the garden and found an all new look to a large leaf of Blue Umbrellas. I think this indicates that there are many layers of hosta tissue that we never notice under normal lighting conditions. The entire reverse side of the leaf was backlit, but just this portion of the leaf was showing this pattern. For those not familiar with this hosta, it begins the season as a blue, then gradually changes to a very dark green.
