These are pictures from a few days ago. This young bull (with a bad injury in one fore-leg, and hence the bandage) had fallen to the ground with an acutely distended abdomen, obviously because of the build up of gas that he wasnt able to release. The discomfiture and pain that he was suffering, were palpable. It was lunch hour, and the large animals para-vets had just stepped out for lunch. Mr. Chauhan, the SPCA Noida Administrator and I, happened to see him and immediately called out to Vineet. Vineet rushed in (to Large Animals Enclosure No. 2 where the bull was), together with a few staff. Krishna Mohanty, a very dedicated volunteer with the SPCA, rushed in too. In the first instance, the bulls abdomen had to be pierced, to release the gas. He was then made to sit up, which was not easy ! A drug called Gastina was then administered with measured force through his mouth, and injected into him too. All of this combined to lend obvious relief to him. Vineet tells us that for the rest of the day and the next day, he seemed comfortable. After that however, he sat down again. Dr. Sanmat Jain examined him yesterday, for a possible rumenotomy, but his body temperature was low. So he is being administered injections tonophosphon, tribivet, intacej, belamyl, d25, dns, mifax, & melonex in the prescribed dosages, and Dr. Jain will review him tomorrow.
