These are the very kind words of Rafael de Acha about my recital today: Pedro Arroyo organized a recital which I attended this afternoon. Also participating, sopranos Cindy Candelaria (who sang a gorgeous Io sono lumile ancella), Paola Gonzalez (a superb Mimi in the ending scene of La boheme act I), Paulina Villareal, who proved beyond a doubt that great talent often comes in small bottles (if you pardon the mixed metaphor) by singing a duet from a zarzuela by Vives with Pedro and the zapateado from La Tempranica with just the right balance of salero and assured vocalism... And Pedro, who gave of himself vocally and musically, sang with a big voice and big heart everything from Questa o quella to Taminos aria to Che gelida manina to a handful of zarzuela arias and duets. The whole affair lasted under an hour and a half and felt like only minutes. This big boricua young man and this bunch of latinas are a group to watch. I predict great things for all four of them. They are young and brimming with talent and singing well under the tutelage of Prof. Tom Baresel. Bravi tutti!!!
