These images are of the original Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, - TopicsExpress

These images are of the original Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, about a mile west (railroad west) of Hansrote, WV. In 1914, the B&O constructed the Magnolia Cut Off, shortening the run from Orleans Crossing to Paw Paw, WV by several miles, as it eliminated the several bends in the original right of way, which closely followed the banks of the Potomac River. Freight traffic used the new cut off, while passenger traffic continued to use the original right of way into the early 1960s. The rails and ties were eventually pulled up. The original right of way was several tracks wide, but youd never know it today.Mother nature is reclaiming her land. The first picture is looking railroad west. The second picture is looking railroad east. My wife Pam took these pictures this past Monday, while I was changing a flat tire, due to a sidewall puncture. If you travel back here, be prepared - AAA will never find you!
