These photos do not necessarily go with the story, but Tim carried - TopicsExpress

These photos do not necessarily go with the story, but Tim carried home our 30 pound bag of dog food, Buddy got a new duck, I met a new fish, random street art and the beautiful Westerkerk Church; and Tims dinner:) New Friends... What a delight it was today, meeting an incredible Amstrdamian, the cousin of a friend we met briefly in San Francisco a few months ago, for breakfast. We met at what we already consider our favorite neighborhood cafe off of Cornelis Schuyt Straat (we love the sound of these street names but won’t tell you how we remember them- let your imagination run wild!). Amazing that when she walked in she knew the couple sitting next to us, from another country where they had met when she lived there for a year. It was such a pleasure to talk to them, to talk to her, to be having conversations with people from 3 different countries, only 1 of whom had been born in Amsterdam and the rest of us born in the states! The world is truly flat. I would also be clearer about this seemingly very cool couple we met except that not many people knew they were in town and I don’t want to get them in trouble with anyone (like I used to get in trouble with my son and my sister when I would “forget” to let them know I was coming to Atlanta for a few hours). How to explain what a nice thing it is to meet people from across the world, because a mutual friend/cousin said oh I think you guys would like each other. And then you meet total strangers sitting next to you who also live in a third country and then you become facebook friends and then who knows what! That was just this morning’s activity. If you know us, you know we cannot be still for long so we headed to a market that is only open for food on Saturdays, the Nord Markt (remember the one I wanted to take Tim to last Saturday, but was told it was closed?!). Given that it was cold and rainy and snowy by the time we got there, it was wrapping up but not before we got our fresh cheese (more?!) some fresh fruits and veggies and headed out. As it was already time for another feeding (yes, we seem to eat every few hours), we stopped at a typical small café (no, not coffeehouse) for tea and a broodje. Tim had chutney, cheese and tomato and I had goat cheese, spinach, walnuts, tomato and cucumber with honey- close your eyes and imagine the symphony of flavors that play in your mouth with you get a bite with each of the things on the plate in it. How do they think of these things…sounds so simple, but tastes amazing. Lest I forget, we also had fries with mayonnaise…delicious too! It had nothing at all to do with the fact that we walked a long time in very very cold weather, nothing at all to do with that! And now on a Saturday night, my sweet husband rests on the couch and I am making a pasta with the fresh mussels the nice guy in the marketplace actually baked for us today! Not that Tim didn’t trust that we (is that the royal we?) wouldn’t cook them properly, but that just allows us to skip a step in the preparation! This is posting as he cleans up from our wonderful dinner…and apparently the mussels reheated in wine and lemon juice were just right! Can’t wait to see what we find to eat tomorrow and remind me to tell you about the venison dinner and Wagyu beef burger we had last night
