These two pictures show me at the two lowest points of my life: A&E due to anorexia and suicidality. I’ve been thinking recently about how proud I am of everyone I know, for getting through stages like this in their lives. There are so many people who have been as low as is possible and yet they have managed to keep going, through every hurdle they just haven’t given up. Even when they’ve tried to give up, they’ve recovered and kept fighting their demons; I’m amazed by their strength, courage, and determination. I’m also proud of myself for getting this far, and for not letting you all down. We are fighters and I wouldn’t be able to do it without the help of Highfield and friends/family, it’s been a journey that every single one of you have helped me on. I really can’t get over how amazing everyone has been, supporting me all the way, even when I’ve pushed you away. I’ve gone from the end of the world to a happy healthy teenager. I don’t know how so much can have changed in such a short amount of time, but I do know that I’m immensely proud. But I won’t be able to get back those lost years of secondary school. Nobody deserves mental illness, and nobody deserves to hate their life - especially not the beautiful young girls and boys that I have met throughout my admissions. The world is a cruel place, especially for adolescents, and more need to be done about mental illnesses. We are still living in a world in which depression is not accepted in many social and working environments - people are left with nobody to turn to, because it is not recognised to be a “real” illness. Mental patients are ridiculed by others constantly, and derogatory terms are always used against us. All I want more than anything in the world is for health to be accepted as being both physical and mental, because too many people are dying from unseen mental disorders and it sickens me to think that they felt that they couldn’t be helped. If anyone needs to talk, or be listened to, then please never be afraid to send me a message. I’ll be here for every single one of you, no matter how unimportant you think your problem is. Nobody deserves to go unheard.
