Thesis show begins at SU Call for introducing new courses in textile & fashion design in a bid to diminish the unemployment in the province JAMSHORO: A 10-day Annual Thesis Show comprising the conceptual works of art created by 19 students prerequisite for qualifying their degrees commenced at Institute of Art & Design, University of Sindh (SU) Jamshoro here on Monday. On behalf of vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Nazir A. Mughal, Dean Faculty of Arts Prof. Dr. Javed Iqbal was the chief guest on the opening day while Focal Person of Sindh University Bhit Shah Campus Prof. Dr. Aslam Parvez Memon participated as guest of honor in the inaugural ceremony. The thesis display show is featuring the works by students from three departments of the institute of arts & design, including the fine arts, textile design & communication design. As many as six young inspiring artists have represented the department of fine arts, with majors in sculpture, printmaking, painting and miniature painting. Some 11 students have appeared from the department of textile design, two from communication design. The thesis topics include energy crisis, I & proud, Makli Motifs, utilization of wooden block designs, railway track, mix jewellery, knots, clothe buttons, electric pole & wiring, bracelet, nail art, vegetables & fruits texture, shapes, floral patterns of Shahjahan mosque Thatta, visual investigation, bulbuley, socio political, surroundings, memories and woman is not flesh. Thus the students designed combination of colors, mixture of different designs form new one and various dressings put on the sculpture in order to represent their thesis practically. The Dean of faculty of arts and focal person of SU Bhit shah campus along with the incharge director of the institute Prof. Naimatullah Khilji & Prof. Saeed Ahmed Mangi witnessed the thesis work contributed by the final year students of Fine Arts, Communication Design & Textile Design. Prof. Khilji informed the Dean that the show would continue till March 21 and the gallery would be opened from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm daily. He said that the event was the largest exhibition of the artworks under one roof. Dr. Javed Iqbal lauded the creativity exhibited in the pieces of art by the students, saying an enormous work has been done by the both male & female students of the institute. He stressed the incharge director to introduce such courses which cater the needs of textile & fashion design in the market in order to diminish the unemployment in the society & make this varsity unique from others. Dr. Javed said that realizing the need of community service & human values in higher education, Prof. Dr. Nazir A. Mughal announced to introduce it in the university from the next year along with the traditional method of teaching & awarding degrees. On the occasion, Dr. Aslam Parvez Memon suggested the incharge director of the institute to launch some new diploma courses in the vein of screen & script writing, broadcast journalism and makeup & lighting that would really cater the need of media industries as there is a big scope of these courses. He said that the institute of arts & design was progressing under the leadership of incharge director and uphill struggles of the students. “The institute should pay attention towards the projects of floor designing & renovation of commerce; this will surely help the students and institute equally to generate the funds”. Dr. Memon advised. He further told that the local industries could be eased by providing them skilled men after giving them professional trainings. Dr. Memon added that the international level education was being provided to the undergraduates as well as graduates in the institute and he reached at the conclusion having visited the therein. In the end, five students Shahid Aziz, Hina Hassan Chang (both of textile design), Jawed Ali, Karim Odhejo and Urooj Khan (all three of communication design) were awarded Rs. 5000 each for preparing elegant thesis. Among others Dr. Asad Ali Shaikh, Prof. Fahmida Memon, Prof. Ghulam Ali Buriro and young faculty Muhammad Latif Gaad were also present on the occasion.
