They are replaying the horrible events in New York City on September 11, 2001, again on television. I cant watch it. One of the newscasters said that she hoped that they had evacuated the people in WTC 1; they of course had not. I remember that when I was working on the 106th floor of WTC 2 (the first tower hit) during the eighties we had a fire emergency on a lower floor and people on my floor gathered in the elevator lobby. When I saw smoke coming out through the elevator door, I told everyone that I was walking down and then I led a group of about fifty down 106 flights of stairs. For this act, I was formally reprimanded. WTC management had a standing rule that you were not to undertake self-help in an emergency, but were supposed to wait for instructions by officials. This, of course, is what happened to the people in WTC 1 on September 11, 2001. A friend of mine had an executive recruiting firm on one of the higher floors (above where the second plane hit); when he called in after the first strike, he was told by his secretary that everyone had been told to stay in place since at that time only WTC 2 was affected. My friend lost his entire company that day because of this obscene policy by the WTC management. Everybody above the plane strike zone was lost.
