Things are getting nutty in CD world, what with THE END of CDs - TopicsExpress

Things are getting nutty in CD world, what with THE END of CDs seemingly in sight. 85 CDs in this set for $77. Nuttier? -- Its Toscanini, meaning every damned disc is worth owning and listening to. This is the Toscanini who *premiered* La Boheme in 1896 and whose RCA set of Beethoven symphonies was, well into my lifetime, considered the gold standard. Critics argue over the merits of different Toscanini recordings but the fact is that with this guy and his orchestras you never got anything less than 100% commitment. For years his only competitor was the German, Wilhelm Furtwangler, whose interpretive approach was the polar opposite of Toscaninis. Now, recordings by the two giants tend to complement each other.
