Things that make me shake my head and wonder what this country is coming to, Part II. My niece told me that her two boys, 6 and 10, who ride the same bus to school claim that the driver tells all students they are too noisy and CANNOT TALK AT ALL! If caught talking they have to sit in the front of the bus where she can watch them. I first said, Are you kidding me? Then I told her what I would do is contact the transportation dept. at the school and tell them. Then request a meeting between her and the driver with the bosses present. I said that in MY HUMBLE OPINION, that was sadistic and controlling of the driver. Kids need to talk. So I posted my answer and a little smart ass friend of my niece went ballistic. She told my niece to talk to the driver first. BUZZ - wrong! Not without semi-neutral witnesses. Then she implied that the boys were lying. I cant see why they would - what would they gain? Either way, lying or not, what possible outcome would be acceptable if she confronts the bus driver alone? So this friend proceeds to tell me I am narrow minded, over-reactive, and naive! HUH? I thought that telling my niece NOT to act on her own was pretty smart. If the boys are lying (what would they gain by lying?) then she can apologize and deal with the boys at home. If the policy is acceptable to the district, then she can go home and tell the boys they have to obey (you WILL obey or we will shoot you!) and then write some letters to the school board. If the policy is not acceptable then the bus driver will have received documented warning and then end of story! But this little know-it-all friend thought that my niece should (politely) stop the bus and (politely) question the driver. And then what? Beat the snot out of the driver? Get the snot beat out of herself? Nope. I mentioned to my niece to be prepared as the driver will lie to keep her job, and the little know-it-all said, No she wouldnt, who cares about a $9.00 hour job? This is what we have to deal with out there - sheer stupidity!!
