Thinking of Kiribati, an island state in the Pacific that possesses a defined territory. States should have a defined territory, right? Without a defined territory they would cease to be states. What, then, if all people leave its territory because the state of Kiribati becomes completely inundated. The state would then have no territory above sea level. Would this automatically result in the extinction of Kiribati?
