Thinking of you and appreciating our hours of conversation. I am realizing that there comes a time when it is best to simply be quiet and watch spirit do what spirit does.... Charlie Engel ============================ Too important not to share. I was struck by some parallels between what happened in Islam and what happened to Buddhism. In Buddhism, historically, it was the endless, abstract scholarly *commentaries* after the Buddhas passing that added so much complexity and in my opinion, and in the opinion of many Buddhist, so many wrong views through misguided to explain things the Buddha himself wisely was silent upon. He knew that trying to answer some questions as *metaphysics* would create what he called a thicket of views, endless rules, and eventually kill real practice. (And thats exactly what happened, historically.) ~ As a long-time student of Islam in world history, I resonated with this essay, and would love to hear input from (very busy) friends like Rashied Bey and others on this issue. Also of likely interest to fellow history buff Jake Murray, and of course, many others. Thanks to Steven Douglas Daly for posting this, and many other thoughtful articles, on these issues over the past weeks. ~ Steven Goodheart
