This Bob Jones story makes my stomach coil. Im glad I was taught in seminary that there are thee Ps...the Pastor, the Psychiatrist, and the Police. If someone calls me, the Pastor, about a criminal matter, it is a church discipline issue, but it is just as much a civil matter. I was taught to tell the person to call the Police and that I am just a Pastor. Romans 13 is a good verse to meditate on for Christian leaders. The church is only one limited sphere that God has ordained to do good in this world. The church needs to have its sphere respected, but we need to tell folks to go to the sphere of civil authorities when it comes to allegations of violence, abuse, etc.
