This Day in History: On this day in 1839, John Davidson Rockefeller was born in Richford, New York. In 1870, Rockefeller created the Standard Oil Company. With the success of his company, Rockefeller became one of the richest men in the world. Later in life, he used his fortune to fund many philanthropic causes.
