This Day in Rock History September 13th 2000: Elton John threw a tantrum before he was due to take the stage for a sold out concert at a casino near Lisbon, Portugal. He was unhappy that some of the audience were slow to leave a VIP dinner & left on his private jet without playing a note. 1993: Nirvana released their third and final studio album In Utero. The album would go on to enter the Billboard 200 Album Chart at number one & sell five million copies in the U.S. 1991: At the Re-bar in Seattle, Nirvana got thrown out of their own party for the launch of Nevermind due to starting a food fight. 1991: Alice Cooper sold copies of his latest album Hey Stoopid for 99 cents during a performance at Times Square in New York City. 1989: Sting made his American stage debut in the role of Macheath in The Threepenny Opera in Washington, DC. 1976: Aerosmith peaked at number eleven on the Billboard 200 Album Chart with Toys in the Attic their first album to reach the top forty on the Billboard 200 Album chart. It later went on to sell eight million copies in the U.S. 1969: John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band made their live debut with Eric Clapton on guitar in Toronto during the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival Festival at Varsity Stadium. Other acts on the bill included Bo Diddley, Gene Vincent, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Alice Cooper and The Doors. During Alice Cooper’s set, a chicken made its way onto the stage and Cooper threw it over the crowd expecting it to fly. Instead it plummeted into the audience where it was torn to pieces. 1969: Santana’s debut album entered the Billboard 200 Album Chart. The album would go on to peak at number four and sell two million copies. 1965: The Beatles released “Yesterday” which went on to become the most covered song of any song ever written with over 1,600 versions recorded.
