This Halloween themed lobster was picked up last weekend in Salem (yes, seriously). Split lobsters like this one are unusual but not unheard of. Rough estimates suggest they occur once every 50-100 million lobsters. Splits are often hermaphrodites and scientists have suggested that the colouring is a result of complete cellular split when the lobster egg is first fertilized. This doesnt seem to be the case here though, as this lobster is female. Note: this is not photoshopped, nor is it half cooked.
