This Lenten season, we are reminded that Jesus was tested and tempted but never fell for it. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Hebrews 4:15 God does not tempt us. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.. James 1:13-15 Satans very nature is to tempt. Satan is called a tempter (Matthew 4:38). Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour 1 Peter 5:8 Temptations come from the devil; from our selfish desires; from other people. We undergo tests from outer circumstances; from our own actions; sometimes from God. Temptations attacks us where we are weak; trials tests our strength as well as expose weakness we may be unaware of. God allowed Satan to test Job (Job 1:6-12). God allows trials to test our faith as well as strengthen our commitment to obey Him no matter what the cost (Romans 15:3-4). Sin is a willful act. God calls us not to sin yet we willingly defy God. Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:41 The intent of temptation is not to please ourself but to obey Gods instruction to flee destructive sin. The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished 2 Peter 2:9 God wants us to endure temptations. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. James 1:12 We have to resist temptation but cannot do it alone. We need God. We need His Christ. We have to continue building a closer relationship with God, through Christ our Lord. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13
