This Nicholas Kristof article resonates somewhat with THE GIRL WHO KNEW TOO MUCH. I just made my first comment ever on a NYT article. Here is what I wrote: I once knew a girl like Phung. Her name was Shanta and I met her in Nepal six years ago. She, too, was smart. Ambitious. She hoped to return to her village a doctor. She was a poster child for the power of girls education. And, then, just a year shy of graduation, Shanta took her own life. It was only then that I learned that suicide was the leading cause of death for women of child-bearing age in Nepal. Shanta got an opportunity, but didnt have the right kind of support. Its time for NGOs and donors to account for the trauma of change.
