This Sunday we hear the story of Joseph, Abraham and Sarahs - TopicsExpress

This Sunday we hear the story of Joseph, Abraham and Sarahs great-grandson, being in prison in Egypt for a crime he didnt commit. In the U.S. we have an incarceration crisis, with the highest percentage of our citizenry in prison of any country in the world. The U.S. represents five percent of the world’s population, but houses twenty-five percent of the world’s prisoners. A shocking number of these persons are incarcerated because of false evidence, coerced confession, procedural malfeasance or other legal incompetence, or all of the above. What might our responsibility be to support the wrongfully accused? What about supporting the police officers, lawyers, judges and other criminal justice professionals? As Christians we are called to ask these hard questions and wrestle with the tension between Gods justice, human justice systems, and community safety.
