This Sunday’s Speaker—Dr. Sharon Betsworth, Understanding the Gospel of John Those who are familiar with the Gospels in the New Testament readily see the vast differences between the first three gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke, and the fourth gospel, The Gospel of John. Why is this latest gospel so different from the firs three? Or is it? This talk will explore some of the often overlooked similarities with the other gospels and also why John is really a different kind of gospel. Sharon Betsworth is the Director of the Wimberly School of Religion and Associate Professor of New Testament at Oklahoma City University. She has been on the faculty at OCU since 2007, and also teaches for Saint Paul School of Theology at Oklahoma City University. Dr. Betsworth is an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church, and she has served as the associate pastor in Mason City, Iowa. Dr. Betsworth received an Master of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary, a Master of Theology in New Testament from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in Biblical Studies from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. ” She is currently working on a book on children in the Gospels. When not pursing scholarly interests she enjoys cooking, and hiking and walking with her husband, Tom, and their Border Collie, Bohdi.
