This Wednesday we present a new addition to the arsenal of Wednesday themes, Anniversary Shows. On these special nights we present a tip of the hat to Grateful Dead related shows that occurred on the same day. For the first one of these shows we are going to pay homage to the 27th anniversary of 4/9/1987 at the UIC Pavillion. Listen to the show here: https://archive.org/details/gd1987-04-09.sbd-mtx.miller.90477.sbeok.flac16 OK, so this is the way we are working these shows. We are not playing the exact same show in the exact same way. It wont be an exact representation. It is not intended to be a direct recreation of the show, but more of a look back whilst stepping into the future. So, we will likely not play some of the songs and maybe throw in a different song in there and leave room for individual exploration. Weve done this kind of thing in the past including last week when we played 4/1/80 without announcing it. It ended up being fun and so we figured lets go with it some more. This show is a special one for Cary our lead guitarist who attended this show and has fond memories of it being a resurgence of the Grateful Dead out of a generally hit and miss period of the mid-80s. Indeed 1987 is remembered as one of the peak years, especially of the 80s. Jerry was cleaner than usual because he had just gotten over hospitalization for a diabetic coma where he almost died. The band also enjoyed a great deal of popularity because the song Touch of Grey was on the charts. A new influx of fans came into the scene as a result. So, you can expect to hear us play most of these songs on Wednesday with some twists that might take your head for a bit of a spin. We are keeping doing what we and adding another new element to the ever evolving Wednesday residency experiments weve been playing with.
