This a a repeat story I was asked to do about the chances we took back in 1990. Do you stumble around thinking of buying or breeding or do you feel the force so to say and do it right off! I am certainly a procrastinator…but there have been times I go for it and feel the force. We were thinking of purchasing Anaza El Nizr is 1990,but he had a 6 figure price…rather beyond our means. Then a breeder from Australia was in the process of purchase and Les St.Clair told us if we had any mares to breed he will be leaving very shortly for quarantine. Now I am in a tizzy and 2 of our mares are in heat…hurriedly we got coggins. which in those days I drove the blood an hour & a half away and had to return the next morning for written results. Prior to this was a friend told me we could use her newer trailer to go to Florida. Our trailer at that time was very small stock trailer. When I got home from getting the neg, coggins results, my husband told me she had changed her mind and we would have to use our trailer..which was impossible to put two mature mares, considering one had never been loaded and the other would jump in and jump right back out. I was in tears when talking to Lois she reminded me that Joe Zorn (a long time breeder 2 hours away) had offered as he was going to pick up a couple of studs from Florida sometime in the future. Well the future was now or never. Joe said he would be here in a few hours and would charge me $800.00. He showed up 4 hours later than he had said and of course I was a nervous wreck. He & I drove and were able to bring the two mares down a 26 hour trip. They were covered only once & these were Nizrs first breedings. The following morning the vet came and said neither mare was in heat and that they might just be coming in heat. Again my heart sunk...did not think this was right. and so we left for WIsconsin with the mares later… 2 days on the road and 1 & 1/2 days there at ST.Clairs… Both mares foaled the following year a filly Razali El Masr…Top Ten Event Champion out of our Ruminaja Ali daughter and our Champion Shahin El Masr out of our home bred Mariah El Masr , an *Ibn Hafza & *Ramses Fayek granddaughter. Lois St.Clair called it an immaculate conception! Later I sold Razali to a breeder in Europe & kept Shahin. He is the sire of our best foundation mares… and that s truth..
