This afternoon, I voted against the 1.1 trillion dollar Omnibus Spending Bill. While there were good items in the omnibus spending package, it features too many compromises with Democrats, poorly prioritized spending, and would have a negative financial impact on counties that include public lands. Furthermore, it is not sound budget practice to receive a 1,500 page bill spending a trillion dollars on a Monday night, and be expected to vote on it less than two days later. It is the job of Congress to responsibly appropriate the taxpayer’s hard-earned money. That is why I cannot support taking the easy way out by rolling everything into a 1,500 page piece of legislation. The 12 spending bills should be considered individually so that the sensible spending can be separated from the wasteful compromise spending put forward by the Democrats.
