This afternoon as an amateur cycling safety lobbyist, I have a meeting with the Minister for Cycling (and Road Safety) along with my co-founder of Stop Killing Cyclists Steve Routley. My priority will be to press for inclusion of national cycling infrastructure investment in all future national infrastructure budgets. It is nuts that it is consistently completely ignored. The Highways Agency should be the Cycling and Highways Agency. I hope to also bring up the bizarre situation that cycling and pedestrian victims of road killings/collisions are always presumed guilty unless the driver can be proven to be guilty - unlike all other European countries (ar 4) where there is civil presumed liability for the driver. Pressure to act on truck cycling safety equipment is also crucial. The challenge is that there are a whole host of issues that need raising after decades of the hugely rich motoring lobby having total domination of the Department of Transport agenda, that it is crucial to decide which are the key ones to focus on.
