This article aint nothin but the devil. The same as the scientists comin up with all that stuff about climate change. Nothin but the devil. This cliché is woven deeply in the religious culture when any disempowering event or something we didnt want to believe occurred, when things fall in to place or conditions are more favorable we quote that aint nothin but God The high school football team is down by 5 points on their own 2 yard line with 10 seconds left in the game. The center hikes the ball, the quarterback drops back in the pocket as the receivers blast off the line of scrimmage twoards the opposing teams goal. The defensi breaks through grabbing the quarterback but he escapes like Harry Houdini and lofts the ball down the field into the waiting hands of the receiver and pulls the out the unlikely upset win. The supporters of the winning team move quickly from breathless anticipati to overwhelming jubilation and you can hear the confused spiritualality began to creep in as some scream thank you Jesus and others say that wandnt nuthin but God. But mean while on the sidelines of the supporters of the losing team the fans quickly transition from breathless anticipation to to a deep, dark despair and you hear that wandnt nothin but this devil This scenario is a microcosm of the way many religious folks justify their existence and the events that occur in their daily lives whether empowering or disempowering and thus avoid taking responsibility for the outcomes For me the jury is still out on whether Jesus actually existed or if its just a case of historicized myth, but either way it works for me. The thought of even considering this issue sends devout, bible thumping Christians into a frenzy because if there were any other possibilities than the one they have bought into hook, line and sinker their spiritual world and indeed their very existence would be shattered and they would feel as though they were standing lost, naked and alone .....
