This article by a British journalist who once lived in HK, offers an alternative macroscopic view of our situation. What the article does not offer, is a microscopic view. Whilst I can understand why the protest has morphed into the form it is today, I fail to foresee what will come of it eventually; whilst I applaud the protestors at large who are considerate, law-abiding and peaceful, I cant suppress my worry that a few black sheep in the crowd would bring chaos; whilst I am thankful for for free information access real time, I am concerned that false or subjective information would grow tension and worst still hatred. The main reason why the article is insightful, is that the author isnt clouded with the emotions we have, which stem from our identity. But were stuck with an identity for which I am thankful. Ive been asking myself, what can I/we do? in this situation, and I dont have an immediate solution to it. But I feel that if we can take a step back, think through what we want and how we could get there, see from the others perspectives, what have we achieved so far, perhaps these reflections will lead us to, at the very least I hope, a better state of mind at this heated moment in time...
