This article has been making the rounds across my friends list, so I figure I might as well throw my two cents in. Its hard to take the response to this article too seriously because the responder to the question seems pre-destined to shit on a subculture she doesnt know anything about or have any experience with from the start. Like she instantly took a look at it and thought: Ew, weird! And decided to knock off and call it a day. One thing Im wondering after a little more thought is just how shed react if it was a different subculture in question? Particularly would she have the same Youre too old to put on facepaint and pretend to be X towards rabid, frothing sports fans? Or how about Civil War Re-Enactors? Without any sort of context, one could easily argue those two subcultures are equally silly and worthy of ridicule, but large swaths of society are willing to accept them outright without batting a lash. Just my immediate take on this article. Howzabout you guys?
