This article primarily focuses on the trade ties between Latin American TPP partners (Pacific Alliance) and an Asia represented by Japan and South Korea. There has been far greater economic relations between the two regions without US-style FTAs or investment from the Japan-led ADB as this article suggests. The close relations between China and Brazil, for example, draws in the 13 non-Pacific Alliance Latin American countries that make up the Mercosur and ALBA cooperations, as well as the other 22 Asian economies who have signed MOUs with Chinas Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. There is a reason why, Wall St driven Foreign Direct Investment has remained lacklustre in the region during the past decade. Its not because-- as the writer shares-- Latin American workers are perceived to have lower productivity and poorer work ethic than Asian workers, rather, it is a result of neoliberal free-market investment schemes (which this article upholds) seeing, cumbersome domestic regulations as a problem. Personally, I think advocating for cumbersome domestic regulations (CDRs) should be a good thing. eastasiaforum.org/2015/01/24/asias-growing-ties-with-latin-america/
