This book i obtained recently: Christoffer Columbus- Discovery of America (Dutch) 1924? and like to dedicate to Thomas Pieters with conviction... read it padre... its a detailed diary of some of the voyages... and we both know that the Vikings where there before, aha: I translated it out of dutch: ....from the north looking west over the Faroe Islands to Iceland . Since there were 795 Irish monks and hermits , whose loneliness , however , lasted for 100 years . Then appeared Normans, rude people, who lived constantly in conflict and war . By reconciliation of manslaughter, Erik the Red was in 983 banished from Iceland for three years . He went over the sea to the west and came ashore and followed to the south. After his exile , he returned to Iceland and told with pride about the coast that he discovered on account of high abundance of grass and fertility . Because of this seductive paintings , many of his countrymen move to there . However, the new country was called Greenland . The son of Erik the Red , Leif , sailed in 999 to Norway and returned a year later from there back to Greenland. On his way home he drifted south and came on coasts , where grain and wine growed in the wild and there stood trees as not know in Greenland , because they were so large, they could build houses out of them. Leif Erikson sailed from there nortward to his homeland Greenland. Thorstein, the oldest brother of Leif, sailed now to extend the discovery of his brother. He was on his way for months, but couldnt find back the land. In 1003 went, under Thorfinn Karlsfinni, one in 1002 from Iceland arrived merchant and sailer, three ships with 140 men in sea and arrived ashore. They followed a coast full of flat , large stones, en named them Helluland, Land of Stone. After a cruise of two days they reached woody areas, and they named them Markland, Woodland. Further to the south they found Vinland, Wineland, where wine growed in wild. There they founded a setllement, which they had to leave as soon as they came in confict with natives. Further to the north they founden a new settlement, which suffered the same fate. In 1006, the last of these Vikings went back to Greenland. Whit these rides the Noreman had entered the land of North-America. Helluland is the coast of Labrador, Markland are the coast of Newfoundland and Vinland you can find near Cape Breton... so my uncle Padre... and we know that the Vikings then went south and arrived in Mexico and later in Northern Brasil and there by Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro...
