This building was built in 1908 by the YMCA. William Howard Taft, then Secretary of War, came to Dayton for the laying of the cornerstone on April 29, 1907. The six floors (and a basement) had a gymnasium, sixty showers, Turkish baths, a swimming pool, classrooms an auditorium, restaurant, bowling alley and game rooms. At the time of its completion the YMCA building was the second largest in the world and was valuded at $500,000. They outgrew it and it was used by the Dayton Industries from 1930 to 1940. In 1940 it became the City of Dayton Municipal Building.
