Friday, Nov. 22 - MARK WINKLER, in “My Idea of a Good Time.” This platinum-award-winning singer/lyricist and Cabaret Scenes cover boy has had over 200 of his songs recorded and/or sung by such artists as Dianne Reeves, Randy Crawford, Liza Minnelli, Bob Dorough, Jackie Ryan, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Britain’s Claire Martin, and he has written lyrics for such jazz luminaries as Wayne Shorter, Duke Pearson, Joe Sample, David Benoit, and Dexter Gordon. After delving into the songbooks of Laura Nyro and teaming with Manhattan Transfer’s Cheryl Bentyne to explore the “hipsters of West Coast Cool” for his two latest CD’s, Mr. Winkler returns to something most near and dear to his heart: “The Mark Winkler Project”---he’s been writing lyrics for lots of new songs and “Winkler-izing” some others, and is “just itching” to perform them for you. He’s got new songs about cats playing the piano, his love of Barbra Streisand, rainbows with an extra color or two—and a song inspired by one of his favorite Diane Arbus photographs. Throw in some Jule Styne, Nat King Cole, and a few Winkler favorites, along with “lots of surprises” backed by Jamieson Trotter on piano, Tim Emmons on bass, and Peter Buck on drums, and you begin to get the idea behind “My Idea of a Good Time,” which, yes, is the title of one of his new songs.
